ONLINE: 2020 CIE/USA-DFW Community Resilience Scholarship

In response to the unprecedented impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on communities across the globe, CIE/USA-DFW created the Community Resilience Scholarship to be awarded this year. This scholarship recognizes students and their families who have experienced profound impact, provided special inspiration, or have gone above and beyond to help fight COVID-19 or support the community. This includes student contributions/experience or students who have immediate family members that include a First Responder such as policeman, firefighter, paramedic/medical professional or other related fields. Qualified applicants were required to submit an essay detailing the impact, inspiration, and support provided to the community. Jenny Gong, Branch Manager at Cathay Bank, joined to provide advice and motivation to the CRS recipients.

This year two students were awarded the inaugural Community Resilience Scholarship. Both students were members of the TechnicBots, a FTC robotics team that helped design, test, manufacture, and donate over 2800 ear guards and 1500 face shields to more than 40 different clinics and hospitals. The two awardees combined efforts covered materials and resource procurement, 3D printer operation, machine troubleshooting & repair, PPE request management, and ultimately product distribution efforts. Their efforts to productively respond to this global catastrophe have demonstrated an extraordinary dedication to the community. Not only have their efforts fostered the growth and employment of STEM-related skills, but more importantly they may have a direct impact in saving lives.

Congratulations to all the YAA and CRS Awardees for 2020!
