It will be held on June 15\, 2013 (Saturday) 12:00pm – 5:00 pm at the Collin College\, Spring Creek Campus at the Conference Center. \nMathComp (Math Competition) provides young students the opportunity to demonstrate their math problem solving skills. We are honored to have Harvard father\, Mr. Bruce Yeh\, to share with us on “Pursuing Excellence with Your Children”. \nMathFun is an interactive program allowing parent/children to work together in solving math and engineering quizzes and games which stimulate the students\’ interest in mathematics. Every year\, we have about 20 schools\, companies and organizations bringing interesting math and engineering materials to the site to interact closely with the students. This is the fun part of the fair that children don\’t want to miss. SUMMARY:2012 CIE/USA-DFW MathComp/MathFun
DESCRIPTION:The annual MathComp is a very popular math competition\, providing young students of Grade 1-7 the opportunity to demonstrate their math problem solving skills. MathFun is an interactive program allowing parent/children to work together in solving math and engineering quizzes and games which stimulate the students\’ interest in mathematics. Students from Grade 1 to 7 in the Spring Semester of 2012 are invited to register for the competition and enjoy the fun. This year event will be held on June 2 from 12:00pm to 5:30pm at Collin College Spring Creek Campus\, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway\, Plano\, TX 75074Contact:\nPlease contact Dr. Chinpei Tang and Dr. Juan Zhao at ciemathcomp2012@gmail.com for inquiries. \nMathComp/MathFun Event Agenda: \n12:00 – 1:00 PM: MathComp Check-In \n1:00 – 2:30 PM: MathComp Test (Grade 1-7) \n1:15 – 2:15 PM: Parenting Seminar – “21st Century Success: Beyond Math Competitions” \n2:30 – 4:00 PM: MathFun (Collin College Atrium Area) – Open to Public \n4:00 – 5:30 PM: Award Presentation Ceremony \n  \nParenting Seminar: \n“21st Century Success: Beyond Math Competitions” \nby David Cordeiro\, Manager at HP Enterprise Services \nAbstract: \nThe problem solving and discrete math skills students learn to be successful in elementary and middle school math competitions are necessary but not sufficient for success in the rapidly emerging fields of the 21st Century.  Universities and employers seek deep thinkers and innovators who can understand and adapt quickly to the technology and market trends that can make fortunes or bankrupt companies.  As a leader in the HP Enterprise Cloud Services business unit\, David Cordeiro faces the challenge of recruiting people with the unique skill set to solve challenging problems and to work across his global development team.  As a parent and the parent coordinator of the Metroplex Math Circle and the Circle of Circles\, Mr. Cordeiro sees the solution to this global problem in a new generation of students whose parents provide them a broader and deeper mathematical education than has ever been offered by a single school.
